You MUST follow this step by step after making sure your jpar email is set up with the brokerage first. You MUST use your jpar email or this step will not work. If you get an error message, then please go back and follow the steps again. 

Part 1: Setting up an “App Password”


This part won’t work unless you set up 2-Step Verification on your Gmail account. If you haven't already, follow these instructions before proceeding: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185839



  1. Click on your profile picture and press “Manage your Google Account”

  1. Go to “Security”

  2. Go to “2 Step Verification”

  3. Scroll to the bottom and click on "App passwords"

  1. For App name, you can use Sending JPAR.net. (The name is not important) and click Create.

  2. Copy/write down the password. You will need it for the next part.


Part 2: Sending as your forwarding address

  1. Go to the Gmail gear icon and click on “Settings”

  2. Go to “Accounts and Import”

  1. Under the “Send mail as” section, select “Add another email address”

  1. Enter your forwarding email address and make sure “Treat as an alias” is selected

  2. Change the SMTP server to “smtp.gmail.com” and the port to 465
  3. Enter your full Gmail address as your username and the app password we have previously created
    Important: you must use the app password you created rather than your regular account password. Then click Add Account.
  4. Check your Gmail inbox for a verification email and either click the link to verifiy.


Troubleshooting:

I'm using G Suite to host my email account and I'm getting an error saying that I can't set up an external SMTP server.
